How to Become a Substitute Teacher for Clovis Unified

Qualifications

All Applicants must qualify for a 30-Day Sub Permit or higher Credential. The minimum qualifications for 30-day sub permit are a bachelor's degree and verification of passage of the CBEST. For additional Credential information please contact California Commission on Teacher Credentialing at www.ctc.ca.gov

Application Process

Substitute Teacher applications are accepted electronically and are only available during an open posting period. Future posting dates for the 2010-11 school year are yet to be determined. Please continue to check back.

The applications will be located at www.cusd.com click on Jobs at the top, and then Certificated in blue print, then find the Substitute Teacher Eligibility Pool posting.

All applications, along with required documents, MUST be received by the posting deadline, to receive an invitation to the next Substitute Orientation. Required documents include:

• California Credential or 30 Day Sub Permit
• CBEST
• Resume
• Letter of Introduction
• Letter of Recommendation from the Educational field

Mandatory Orientation and Fingerprint Information

New substitutes will be notified of the Orientation date and time and who to contact to schedule a fingerprint appointment, after the application period closes via email.

The fee for fingerprinting is $46.00. Due to fingerprint legislation, Clovis Unified cannot accept fingerprint clearance for employment purposes from other agencies, school districts, county offices or the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

Substitute Teacher Pay

Substitute Teachers are paid on a daily rate of $90 per day. Long-term substitute positions are paid at $105 per day starting on the eleventh (11th) consecutive day.

Please Note: If you are applying for a California Credential or Permit for the first time, you will be required to pay additional fingerprint fees through the Fresno County Office of Education in order to receive the initial issuance of your Credential or Permit.
