Community of Readers
One of the exciting and overdue changes in education in the past decade has been the move to increase parental and community involvement in public schools.
Schools in the Clovis Unified School District have always enjoyed a high degree of public support, although in many instances this support has not resulted in direct contact with students. The district has recognized the need for a genuine connection of its children with adults in the community.
The program aims to place teams of volunteers in all elementary schools to work with second and third grade students who are having moderate difficulty in reading. Each elementary school in Clovis Unified has A Community of Readers coordinator who works to involve parents and community members in the schools.
