General Transfer Information

Every transfer type has different rules.  The information below applies to all transfers.

  • Processing time varies depending on the type of transfer, the volume of requests, and student records requests.
  • Students must be in good standing to qualify for a transfer. All transfers are subject to review of the student’s attendance, behavior, and academic records.
  • All transfers are subject to space availability at the school, grade level and/or specialized program need.
  • Resident student enrollments will take priority over transfer students.  It is against California Education Code to approve a transfer student if they will displace a resident student.
  • Enrollment in a requested school does not guarantee approval to remain at that school site for future years (Except for Open Enrollments).  Parents should be aware that if they are attending a school and then move out of that school’s attendance area, their transfer will not be approved if there is a transfer waitlist, students in that grade level have been overflowed to another school site, a specialized program is impacted, or the grade level is at capacity.
  • Interdistrict and Employment Based students, once approved, become residents of the district and not a specific school site.  They can be assigned to a different school.
  • All students are eligible to be overflowed to another school regardless of their transfer type.
