The Department of Student Services and School Attendance (SSSA) is responsible for various areas across the district.
First, SSSA provides an interdisciplinary approach to resolving identified student problems related to school attendance, student behavior or unsatisfactory academic achievement. SSSA works closely with law enforcement agencies, the courts, Juvenile Probation, the Department of Social Services, Department of Health and numerous public and private agencies providing services to and for children. SSSA staff work directly with parents, pupils and community members to provide a safe school environment conducive to learning.
Additionally, SSSA is responsible for implementing attendance boundaries and district to district or school to school transfers. Students that wish to attend a school other than their resident school, may access the transfer process to apply to attend a school of their choice.
SSSA supports foster youth and students in transitional living situations. Students in these situations receive support to register and enroll into a school, access available resources, and implement specific legal rights afforded to them.
Lastly, SSSA supports the implementation of Federal Law, Title IX. The Title IX Coordinator reviews possible student incidents related to Sexual Harassment, Sexual Assault, Dating Violence, Domestic Violence, and Stalking and applies federal law.
