This summer the CTE department will offer a number of free programs to current 7th and 8th graders. Some programs will be one week, and others will be three weeks. These programs will be held at high school sites throughout the district; transportation is not included.

Each program is free to participants and will be held from 8 am to noon, Monday through Thursday. Space is limited, and transportation is not provided. June 19th is a holiday, and no classes will be held on that date.
Registration begins on Thursday, April 24th.

Course Description:
3-D Design Workshop (June 16 - July 2, No School on Fridays or June 19) Clovis High School
Students will be introduced to basic design concepts and discover how to use Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software to model and 3D print their own creations. Students will create unique solutions to design prompts that will challenge them to think creatively and work collaboratively. This course combines creative and technical skills, so it appeals to both those who like the arts and those who prefer math and science.
Child Development and First Aid #1 (July 7 - July 10) Clovis West High School
Child development and first aid are essential topics for parents, caregivers, and anyone working with children. Understanding how children grow and learn is crucial for creating a safe and nurturing environment. In addition, knowing how to administer first aid and CPR can be lifesaving in emergency situations. A summer program that combines child development education with first aid and CPR training is a fantastic opportunity for individuals to enhance their skills and knowledge. Participants can gain confidence in caring for children while also learning critical life-saving techniques. This type of program not only benefits the individuals taking part but also contributes to creating a safer community for children everywhere.

At the end of the session, you will receive a professionally bound copy of your story!

Introduction to Woodworking and Carpentry (June 16 - July 2, No school on Fridays or June 19), Clovis High School
Students will learn safe and efficient use of woodworking procedures used by professional furniture and cabinet makers, life skills for maintaining equipment at home and ethical work practices. A few projects to take home will also be constructed by the students. A few days of metalworking will also be part of the session this summer.
Car Craft (June 16 - July 2, No school on Fridays or June 19), Clovis High School
This class will focus on automotive content, identifying parts and understanding where they are located on a vehicle. Students will get an opportunity to assemble a scale model piece by piece. This will prepare students for entry level knowledge of automobiles.
Crime Scene Forensics (June 16 - July 2, No school on Fridays or June 19), Clovis East High School
Students will learn and demonstrate proficiency in the management of crime scene and evidence processing; crime scene and evidence documentation, including crime scene sketching & photography; latent fingerprints and impression, trace and biological evidence.
The Young Reader's Workshop (July 7 - July 24, No school on Fridays) Clovis West High School
In this engaging three-week course, students will explore the fundamentals of writing a children’s book, from crafting compelling characters to developing strong plots and themes. Through the study of mentor texts and professional authors, students will analyze storytelling techniques and apply them to their own writing. They will learn how to create engaging dialogue, structure a story for young audiences, and bring their ideas to life. By the end of the course, each student will have written and illustrated their own original children’s book, which will be professionally printed and available for pickup in August. This workshop is perfect for aspiring young writers who want to unleash their creativity and see their stories in print!
Introduction to Woodworking and Agricultural Mechanics (July 7 - July 24, No school on Fridays), Clovis East High School
This course introduces students to the fundamentals of woodworking within the field of agricultural mechanics. Designed for middle school students with an interest in hands-on learning, this course covers essential topics such as shop safety, types and grades of wood and lumber, and the proper use of common hand and power tools used in construction. Students will apply their knowledge through practical woodworking projects, developing skills in measuring, cutting, assembling, and finishing. Example projects include constructing a birdhouse, toolbox, cutting board, or Adirondack chair. This course provides a strong foundation for students interested in further studies in woodworking, construction, or agricultural mechanics.
LEGO Movie Magic: Grimm Tales (June 16 - July 2, No school on Fridays or June 19), Clovis West High School
LEGO Movie Magic: Grimm Tales is a hands-on course where students bring classic fairy tales to life through stop-motion animation and video production! Using LEGO bricks and minifigures, students will recreate the magical (and sometimes dark) world of the Brothers Grimm, learning the fundamentals of storytelling, scripting, set design, and animation. Along the way, they’ll develop essential filmmaking skills, including camera techniques, lighting, and editing. By the end of the course, each student will have produced their own animated short film, turning legendary fairy tales into cinematic masterpieces—one frame at a time!
