CLOVIS UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT CAMPUS CATERING DEPARTMENT
SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR USDA WAIVER TO USE CAFETERIA FUNDS FOR KITCHEN UPGRADES
Clovis Unified School District Campus Catering is requesting a waiver from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to allow the use of cafeteria funds for upgrading kitchen service systems, specifically the installation of air conditioning units in school kitchens. These kitchens are essential for preparing meals served under the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP).
Current regulations limit the use of cafeteria funds for certain types of kitchen renovations, but due to rising heat waves in California and increased meal production, the Campus Catering Department seeks to enhance kitchen conditions to ensure optimal meal preparation. This waiver if granted would allow the installation of air conditioning units in district school kitchens, supporting the meal service during periods of extreme heat.
